Quickmove Team race to John O’Groats to raise £3,360 for local domestic abuse charity.
As a team we have felt extremely lucky to avoid the awful effects brought by Coronavirus to many across the world. Our office has remained open and our staff stayed healthy.
However, over the first few weeks of lockdown, we became aware that the number of calls relating to domestic abuse had increased by 66%.
With these stats in mind, our quick-moving Operations team set themselves the challenge of raising money for Splitz, a local charity supporting people affected by domestic abuse. The task involved running (or walking) the distance from our office in Royal Wootton Basset to John O’Groats in Scotland, which is a whopping 623 miles, in just over 5 weeks.
After 25 miles a week for 5 weeks and the equivalent of 23 marathons, the team reached their target of 623 miles and raised an amazing £3,360. Jacqui from Splitz visited Quickmove to accept the cheque and shared with us how this will boost their work.
“The money raised by Quickmove has been put towards our volunteer Buddy Scheme. This is a group of dedicated volunteers that provide 1-1 emotional support, empathetic listening, information and advocacy for individuals in recovery from the trauma of domestic abuse, once intensive support has ended.”
Research suggests that 1:4 women and 1:6 men experience domestic abuse within their lifetime, it is therefore highly likely that you may know someone who has experienced some form of domestic abuse either currently or in the past.
