Quickmove’s marathon walk raises £3,700 towards the recovery of a local lad
On Sunday 17th October 2021 staff from Quickmove Properties set out to walk 26-miles along the canal pathway from Devizes to Bath, raising £3,750 for a local cause. After little training, the team powered through injury, blisters, twisted ankles, wasp stings and angry swans to complete this demanding task in 12 hours.
Each year, Wiltshire-based Quickmove Properties take on a testing challenge to raise money for a worthy cause. In July 2021, 20-year-old Ki New from Fairford, Gloucestershire, was rushed to hospital following a bicycle accident, where it was confirmed he had broken and dislocated his back, damaging his spinal cord and paralysing him from the neck down.
Following 6-hour emergency spinal surgery he was told he may never walk again. His pathway since then has been incredibly challenging both physically and mentally as this fit, active, and outgoing personality comes to terms with his new reality.
After hearing about Ki’s difficulties, Quickmove pledged to help his recovery and their efforts have raised £3,750 from private donations and a Just Giving page.
Quickmove Chairman Steve Abbley explains why the team chose to undergo this epic fundraising effort: ‘The Quickmove team have been fortunate to largely stay healthy and active during 2021, however, many like Ki have been less fortunate. We hope the amount raised will aid his recovery and bring him some additional comfort for his day-to-day life.
Based in Royal Wootton Bassett in Wiltshire, Quickmove specialise in helping customers make a hassle-free house move in retirement.
The donation page is still open for those wanting to help this worthy cause: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/walk-for-ki?utm_term=nAQnKJRkB
