Firstly, Barbara explained why she considered a park home for retirement:
I always wanted to live in a park home. I just thought that the design, the simplicity, the size was absolutely right for when you retire. My father had one, my brother had one.
When we retired, we were living in the wrong place. Retirement was no longer really an option in Derbyshire. My sister-in-law made it her work to find us a house. The one she found here was a reasonably good bargain but we got usurped as we couldn’t sell our house. The house sale fell through twice. Eventually, I rang Quickmove, having had the details from a leaflet.
I spoke to Debbie DeCroo and she then assessed the house. She made the whole process extremely simple. And she said we can move you within two to four weeks if you accept our offer. We accepted the offer!
Luke looks after this place like it’s his own. And it’s his own family. And that is absolutely brilliant for well-being. I dealt with Luke’s uncle Philip, and with Quickmove it all came together and we moved here.’
Barbara went on to tell us what she likes about her own park home, the downsizing experience and her new park community:
‘The simplicity of the home, the fact that it doesn’t take up all your time to clean it. You’re got to be tidy, but that’s quite a good thing. You can’t hoard things. We downsized from a very big house. It was painful but once you’ve done it, you actually feel better and you feel less encumbered. Because you don’t need things. You don’t need stuff. And for a long time we didn’t buy any stuff because it was just unnecessary.
I love living on Lillybrook. It’s a lovely atmosphere and lovely people – community, togetherness and friendship.’
